When choosing a frame, care must be taken to balance the overall look whilst being sensitive to the image being framed and at the same time not dominating the image with an overbearing frame.
When framing paintings of landscapes, natural materials and colours are generally more sympathetic to the artwork, and if you can pick out colours or tones within the artwork, then the frame and the artwork can be in harmony with each other.
In this example, our customer chose a distressed, highly grained wood for the frame, which echoes many of the rich colours in the painting, with a gently coloured inner “slip”.
The result is a perfect match and the frame helps to enhance the artwork so that the frame itself becomes part of the artwork. Perfect.
